Patients who have previously undergone silicone injections in their lips, or other areas of their face or body, now bear the stigmata; their lips appear abnormally swollen, unnatural, with a so-called "duck-like" appearance. Unfortunately, since silicone is not absorbable (liquid silicone injections are currently prohibited by law), patients are forced to remain in these conditions unless they undergo surgery to remove the silicone and reshape the labial mucosa.
To date, the only method capable of removing silicone from the lips and guaranteeing a good post-operative result is the surgical removal of the silicone with simultaneous reshaping of the overlying labial mucosa.
The procedure itself is performed through an incision between the wet and dry parts of the labial mucosa (this will prevent the scar from being visible). At this point, the silicone is removed, along with some of the surrounding inflammatory tissue (silicone always causes tissue inflammation around it). The surgeon then proceeds to reshape the mucosa, which has expanded over the years, to ensure an aesthetically pleasing and, above all, natural result.
