The Round Block Technique: Virtually Invisible Scars

One of the techniques I prefer to use, whenever possible, is the Round Block mastopexy. In this case, the scar is periareolar, meaning it is limited to the areola.

Thanks to the natural color transition between the skin and the areola, over time the scar becomes almost imperceptible, to the point of being practically invisible.

It should be noted that this technique is not suitable for all cases of ptosis, but it is still indicated for the vast majority of patients. I perform the procedure under local anesthesia with sedation, without the use of drains, to ensure a quicker and more comfortable post-operative recovery.

Where are the scars after a mastopexy?

The type and location of the scars depend on the technique used, based on the degree of breast sagging and the patient's anatomical structure. The main techniques involve:

•Periareolar incision: around the areola, indicated for mild or moderate ptosis.

•Vertical incision: from the areola to the submammary fold, ideal for a more marked reshaping.

•Inverted T (or anchor) incision: combines the periareolar, vertical incision and one in the inframammary fold, used for significant ptosis.

Are the scars permanent?

Yes, scars are permanent, but in most cases they tend to fade and become thinner over time. Each patient responds differently to healing, but with the right post-operative care and targeted treatments, the appearance of scars can significantly improve.

Today we also have lasers, injections, and advanced dermatological treatments to further reduce the visibility of surgical marks in cases where hypertrophic or keloid scars form.

How to take care of scars?

Proper post-operative care is essential. Here are some recommendations I always give my patients:

•Follow the post-surgery instructions carefully: dressings, rest, support bra.

•Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 6 months: UV rays can make scars more visible and darker.

•Use specific creams or patches only on the advice of your doctor.

Can scars improve over time?

Absolutely. If a scar appears more noticeable than expected, customized treatments such as fractional laser, microneedling, or injections are possible. In our office, we'll discuss the most suitable solution together to achieve the best possible aesthetic result.
